How to Search Carver County Court Records
The main public portal is Minnesota Court Records Online, usually called MCRO. MCRO is the statewide public application for Minnesota District Court case information and public case documents. For Carver County, it can be used to search case records, available public documents, hearing information, and docketed money judgments. The local court is Carver County District Court at the Justice Center in Chaska, and the Court Administrator is Mary Dalbec.
Before searching, decide whether the target is a case, a document, a hearing, or a judgment. Case Search is best for a broad party-name, case-number, citation-number, or attorney search. Document Search is narrower because it depends on a case number and only returns public documents available online. Hearing Search is better when the question is about a future or recent court appearance. Judgment Search is for docketed money judgments and satisfactions by debtor name.

Case Search is the broadest starting point because it can lead to a Register of Actions, public case documents, party details, and case status when the record is remotely accessible.
- Open MCRO and choose the tab that matches the information available: Name, Case Number, Citation Number, or Attorney.
- For a person-name search, choose Person, enter first and last name, and add middle name, date of birth, filed date, case status, and case category if known.
- Use Court Locations to narrow from statewide to County, then select Carver County when the goal is a local District Court file.
- Use a trailing wildcard only after two characters, and do not combine a wildcard with Sounds Like.
- Open the matching case result and review the case number, category, party details, Register of Actions, public documents, and hearing entries.
- If the matter is a criminal case without a conviction, search by case number because the Carver copy-request instructions warn that defendant-name searches may not return non-conviction criminal cases.
- Contact Carver County Court Administration for certified copies, older records, or documents that are not available through remote MCRO.
Carver County Court Records Search Fields
MCRO's Case Search form lets a user move between name, case number, citation number, and attorney searches. A name search can be broad, but Carver-specific filtering matters because MCRO is statewide. Date of birth and filing-date filters help separate common names. Case category filters identify civil, criminal, family, and probate or mental health records, while county selection keeps the search focused on the Carver County District Court file.

Types of Carver County Court Records
Carver County District Court has original jurisdiction over the county's civil, family, probate, juvenile, criminal, and traffic cases. That means court records for these categories are not split among separate local trial courts. The case type, prefix, and documents determine what a record contains and how much of it can be viewed online.
- Civil records include complaints, answers, motions, orders, judgments, eviction filings, conciliation cases, garnishments, liens, writs, and transcripts of judgment.
- Criminal records include complaints, charges, warrants, bail or bond entries, appearances, pleas, omnibus hearings, probation violations, dispositions, sentencing, restitution, fines, and orders.
- Traffic records include petty misdemeanor, misdemeanor, DWI, implied-consent, citation payment, hearing-officer, and violations-bureau case entries.
- Family records include dissolution, custody, paternity, parenting time, child support, domestic abuse, harassment, and related orders.
- Probate or mental health records include estate, trust, guardianship, conservatorship, will deposit, and commitment proceedings, with access limits for protected matters.
- Juvenile records are more restricted and are controlled by juvenile-record statutes and court rules.

Document Search is useful after Case Search identifies the correct file, but it does not mean every filed document is available through remote access.
What Carver County Court Records Show
A Carver court record can show a case number, case category, filing date, court location, party names, party roles, attorney names, judicial officer, hearing history, docket or Register of Actions entries, public document list, orders, judgments, dispositions, sentences, fines, fees, restitution, bond or bail information, probation events, warrant events, related cases, and redactions. The daily calendar inspected on June 24, 2026 showed case-number examples such as 10-CO-26-363, 10-VB-26-1689, 10-CR-25-426, 10-CV-24-818, 10-FA-25-428, and 10-PR-26-83. The 10 prefix identifies Carver County in Minnesota case numbers.

Judgment Search focuses on debtor-name results, docketed monetary judgment details, satisfactions, and related judgment information rather than the whole case file.
Certified Copies and Court Record Fees
Carver County's copy-request instructions tell users to search MCRO first and identify the exact case and document needed. A request for all documents can return more than the requester actually needs. Certified copies carry the court seal or stamp, and the state copy-help material warns that removing the staple from a multi-page certified document means it is no longer considered certified.

Common filing fees from the Carver District Court schedule include $325 for a civil first paper, $80 for a conciliation first paper, $405 for dissolution of marriage, $325 for custody, paternity, or parenting time, $325 for criminal expungement, $325 for probate first papers, and $27 for depositing a will for safekeeping.
Public Access Framework for Carver County Court Records
Minnesota court records are governed by the Minnesota Rules of Public Access to Records of the Judicial Branch, Rule 4, which makes court case records accessible unless a rule, statute, or order makes them inaccessible. Rule 8 explains why remote access through MCRO can be narrower than access at courthouse terminals or through court administration. For non-court public-safety records, the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act and Minn. Stat. section 13.82 control law-enforcement data.
MCRO itself is not the official certified court case record, and the Minnesota Judicial Branch does not certify MCRO search results. Certified copies must come from local court administration. MCRO should also not be used as a background-check substitute because the Minnesota BCA Public Criminal History Search is the statewide criminal-history source for public conviction-history data.

Common reasons include case types not available online, pending or non-conviction criminal cases that do not appear by defendant name, expunged cases, destroyed records, older files, and browser or reCAPTCHA issues.
Note: Remote access is convenient, but courthouse access and certified copy requests remain important for official use, older records, and restricted online documents.
Records That Are Sealed or Confidential in Carver County
Restricted categories include juvenile delinquency records, sealed or expunged cases, adoption records, mental-health and commitment matters, certain domestic abuse or harassment materials, personal identifiers, medical information, financial account numbers, victim information, and minor identifiers. Minn. Stat. section 260B.171 controls juvenile delinquency record maintenance and release. Minn. Stat. chapter 609A is the main criminal expungement chapter.
For practical access questions, start by checking what is visible in MCRO and then contact Court Administration about public copies or access procedures. A sealed case or restricted document is not made public merely because a person knows the case number. For sheriff records connected to an incident, use the Sheriff Records Unit rather than Court Administration because police reports, 911 audio, photos, videos, alarm data, civil process records, and local background data are law-enforcement records.

That rule is the reason a public court-record search can show a case event while withholding certain documents, identifiers, or protected case types.
In-Person Court Record Requests
Carver County Court Administration is the local office for District Court case files, public copy questions, and certified court documents. The Justice Center is at 604 E. Fourth Street in Chaska. Business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Bring the case number if possible, because it speeds document identification and is required for some non-conviction criminal case searches.
